Jo Harman na NORTHCITYFEST-u 2019

Jo Harman na NORTHCITYFEST-u u Kosovskoj Mitrovici 2019

“I’m not trying to fit in anywhere,” admits Harman, whose super-sized voice fills the record’s 10 tracks. “I’m just trying to write classic songs, and present them with classic production. When you try to chase what’s going on at the moment, then it’s going to sound old very quickly.”

Raised in Southwest England, Harman found success on her own terms with her debut, Dirt On My Tongue. The album was released independently in 2013 and supported by a touring schedule that found Harman sharing the stage with icons like Patti Smith, Joan Baez and Sinead O’Connor. Wildly successful for an independent record, Dirt On My Tongue was embraced with particular devotion by the blues community in the U.K., with Harman racking up more than a half-dozen nominations from the British Blues Awards. Looking to expand her horizons beyond any single genre, though, she began teaming up with her longtime co-write, Mike Davies, to write new songs that took their cues from some of the classic artists — including Carole King, Cat Stevens and David Bowie — whose music had filled her childhood home. She wasn’t looking to be a throwback artist; instead, she was narrowing her focus to the building blocks of ageless music, from powerful melodies to organic, natural-sounding arrangements.

“I’ve learned how to express myself a bit better, and to convincingly put across the stories that I’m telling,” Harman says. “It’s a natural progression. My voice has matured, in the same way that the songs have matured, and the production has matured. I’ve only ever tried to be me, and that’s what People We Become is. It’s me.”

Igor Vince & His Drum, Brass And Keys na NORTHCITYFEST-u 2019

Igor Vince & His Drum, Brass And Keys na NORTHCITYFEST-u u Kosovskoj Mitrovici 2019

Igor Vince & His Drum, Brass And Keys (Srbija, Kuba, Brazil) su međunarodni, 13-člani bend, sa snažnom duvačkom sekcijom, upečatljivom ritam sekcijom, egzotičnim pratećim vokalima, dve afro-funky plesačice, na čijem čelu je Igor Vince, autor, vokal i instrumentalista.

Igorovu autorsku muziku karakteriše zanimljiv spoj dva izražena senzibiliteta, sa jedne strane veoma emotivnih i opuštajućih balada i sa druge vrlo ritmičnih i eksplozivnih numera.

Rečima, muzikom i nastupom sa svojim bendom, Igor šalje nedvosmislenu poruku o ljubavi i borbi protiv predrasuda i poziva za predah i vraćanje lepotama jednostavnosti, vraćanje sebi i pravim ljudskim vrednostima.

Jonathon Long na NORTHCITYFEST-u 2019

Jonathon Buggie Long na NORTHCITYFEST-u u Kosovskoj Mitrovici 2019

The road to Samantha Fish’s Wild Heart Records winds along the Big Muddy through Baton Rouge, where young guitar players travel to learn from and experience the legacy left there by the likes of Buddy Guy, Kenny Neal, Tabby Thomas, Lightnin’ Slim and so many others who fueled that vibrant blues scene going back decades into the last century.

Eighteen years into century twenty-one, Baton Rouge born Jonathon Long (he’s retired ‘Boogie’-more on that later) has claimed his own share of that legacy. He has mined, refined and re-defined his beloved blues for over half of his 29 years. The shuffles and homages to the King’s and Collins’s, along with his mastery of the red Gibson, have evolved into what will certainly be a milestone in that legacy, his third album, titled simply ‘Jonathon Long’.

Recorded in post-Mardi Gras New Orleans earlier this year at NOLA Recording Studios, ‘Jonathon Long’, produced by 2018 Contemporary Female Blues Artist of the Year Samantha Fish, is an extra-ordinary collection of 11 songs, all written by Jonathon save for ‘The River’, written by Detroit’s Kenny Tudrick, a Samantha Fish cohort and drummer for the Detroit Cobras. Long is joined on the record by bandmates Chris Roberts on bass and Jullian Civello on drums, giving it a ‘live in the studio’ sonic signature.

Blues Attack! na NORTHCITYFEST-u 2019

Blues Attack Istanbul na NORTHCITYFEST-u u Kosovskoj Mitrovici 2019

Blues Attack! is the latest incarnation of a blues and funk legend at the core of which stand Tarkan Mumkule (g), Sezen Koroglu (k) and Batur Yurtsever (b)

The all star blues band tradition which started twenty five years ago under the ‘Jazz Stop Band’ name with Engin Yorukoglu and Yavuz Cetin, evolved throughout the years with different names and established musicians such as Serkan Civelek, Nedim Ruacan, Larry O’Neal and Alper Cengiz.

After -what some might say- a long hiatus, in 2018 the band resurfaced as ‘Blues Attack!’ with new recruits; Guray Oskay (g,v) and Hasan Ali Polat (d) who have been playing together for more than twenty years.
